When we post an Adobe AIR file on a site (with the .air extension) and a user clicks on the file in any version of IE (6-8), IE renames the file to .zip instead which doesn't allow the user to correctly install the AIR Application.
I don't really understand why IE is acting this way. AIR files are very similar to ZIP files, but when a user opens the zip file, they have a bunch of files they can't do anything with.
This is a big problem for developers who are using the AIR platform.
No other browser or operating system is exhibiting this behavior.
I found one article on changing server-side MIME associations which we are going to try, but that should not be a necessary step to allow users to download a file with it's original extension.
This problem occurs whether or not the user already has AIR installed.
