I've previously posted this elsewhere but I was directed to post my problem here, so I apologise to anyone who's read this elsewhere.
We are experiencing an issue where our wireless barcode scanners which connect to a C# application on a windows 2008 R2 server via Telnet are being disconnected after only a few minutes.
The server Event Viewer shows the error "The semaphore timeout period has expired."
The User Profile Service often reports "Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards. " within the same second.
The event has been showing in the event log for some time, typically 5-15 times per day, however this has recently increased to circa 200 times per day.
Recent changes include all windows updates, anti-virus updates etc, as well as firmware updates for all wireless access points and the wifi controller (we use a D-Link DWC-1000).
We've tried disabling the Anti Virus software and moving the application to a different server (Windows 2012 R2), but this didn't help.
When testing with only 1 or 2 users it seemed fine, but as soon as all 8 users connected, then the problem re-occurred.
We haven't found any specific routine that we can use to reproduce the problem repeatedly, it just seems to happen randomly.
We've also tried connecting from a wired PC and this didn't encounter the problem, although this may be an red herring as the testing done wasn't in a live environment because its not possible to scan warehouse items from our office.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
