Under TEST -> Runs, the "Recent test runs" query has a fixed filter set to "Created date >= @Today - 7", thereby limiting the list of test runs to last week. I would like to alter this query to display a larger range, or ideally replace it with my own custom query - but there does not seem to be any means by which I can do so.

Specifically, it is not possible to add more queries to the left side panel, and any changes made to the filter setting are lost when the page is reloaded - because there is no "save" button for the filter.

As per my understanding you can only update the filter to display the date range and cannot make it as default as per the user’s requirement.
