I started Windows Phone Development for a class in the master's program.

I was looking through tutorials on MSDN and other sites(stackoverflow, c#academy, etc.), and found out that the tutorial does NOT work on an empty windows phone template in VS 2013 Express. So I try the exact same code in a empty Windows Phone (Silverlight) template, and it worked.

So my question is what's the main disadvantage of developing on a Windows Phone(Silverlight) template?

Our professor did mentioned there will be limitations but didn't mention exactly how.

If the tutorials only work on the Silverlight, then of course I will stick with the Silverlight template...since I still can not find a source or guide that works on the plain Windows Phone (non-silverlight) templates.
