I generally install OS's clean so I started with the x86 64-bit ISO. I created a bootable USB which I've used to install the Win8 Consumer Preview successfully on several other PCs. Then during the initial setup phase, apparently where I went wrong, I nuked all the partitions leaving just one empty partition to install into. The setup proceeded, asked me for a product key then was going fine for a while. It hung for probably 15 minutes at "Installing devices 43%" and then hung for a few hours at "Installing devices 100%". I eventually cycled power to see if I could restart the setup process.

The problem I have now is that I can't get to the UEFI screen anymore. Holding the Windows button during power up isn't bring up the UEFI options screen anymore. I do sometimes see a "Windows Recovery - could not recover" something or other but it flashes by so fast I can't read much of it. If I can't get into the UEFI boot options to start another setup (heck even a Windows 7 setup) then this system is effectively bricked. Can we return the hardware to either Samsung or Microsoft to see if it can be restored. Is there something I can do on my end like another button/power-on combination to get into a special pre-exec environment?

BTW I was definitely surprised that nuking those partitions would have affected UEFI. I would have thought that UEFI would be stored in some non-volatile flash that couldn't be touched by an OS setup program (or diskpart).

Here is how I eventually fixed it.

Get into the bios on the tablet. You do that by holding the home button and then pressing the power button until it boots into the bios.

Once you get in there turn on legacy USB support and save settings and reset. Install windows on to a bootable USB drive (I used wintoflash) then when you plug that usb in it should work now. Repartition your harddrives to the correct setup (I just deleted them all and started from scratch) and install windows.
