I have a problem when using the @Lock annotation together with @Modifying @Query and the query itself performing an update statement. My test setup looks like this:

  • Spring Boot Starter 1.5.3.RELEASE

The @Lock javadoc says:

So my question: Is it possible to combine @Lock with @Modifying @Query in Spring Data JPA together with Hibernate?

Locking in the context of @Lock refers to locks obtained in advance of a modifying query. @Lock accepts a javax.persistence.LockModeType, which from the JPA spec is used only by the find, lock and refresh methods of the EntityManager. find and refresh can potentially fire a SELECT query so indirectly, a @Lock is applicable only to a SELECT query.
